Star chef Nelson Müller at Schwarzenstein Castle

A romantic weekend in a room in a castle, surrounded by nature and extremely attentive hosts, sounds like pure holiday happiness. Schwarzenstein Castle, in an idyllic location in the middle of the Rhine Valley, fulfils all these wishes at a high level. Since summer 2020, star chef Nelson Müller has been in charge of the kitchen. All the more reason to visit the unique castle. Schwarzenstein Castle is situated on a hill high above the roofs of the picturesque village of Geisenheim- Johannisberg. No king, prince or duke has ever lived here and no battles were fought outside its walls. Rather, Schwarzenstein is an artificial castle ruin, which was built in the 1870s for the wine merchant Hermann Mumm, together with the surrounding elegantly designed park.

Schwarzenstein Castle for a romantic weekend

One Castle, three hotel variations
There are many castle hotels in Germany. Nevertheless, Schwarzenstein Castle is unique in many ways. One special feature is the fact that there are three hotels in and around the castle. Each of them delights its guests in a different way and meets different demands.

There are six rooms and a suite directly in the castle itself. If you are looking for romance, you will find it in each of the rooms. The furnishings are classic, full of custom- made dark cherrywood furniture and silk four-poster beds. Despite the historical walls, guests do not have to do without modern comforts. Air conditioning, flat screen TV, WLAN and a rainfall shower are standard. The Relais & Châteaux Parkresidenz is the most modern of the three accommodation options. It is located directly opposite the castle and offers a wonderful view of the tower from some of the 40 rooms.

The lobby is reminiscent of an elegant city hotel, and the rest of the furnishings are also much more urban, creating a beautiful contrast to the surroundings. The guest house on the other hand, is designed entirely in the country house style. Cosy, with light wood and fresh colours, these rooms are the perfect place to relax. The rooms of the three variants differ not only in their furnishings, but also in their price. Schwarzenstein Castle thus has the right living experience to suit every budget. But no matter which room in which price range you choose, the host couple Michael and Stéphanie Teigelkamp always ensure a feel-good atmosphere full of warmth. The first-class service runs through the entire stay: from check-in to the service in the restaurants and special occasions that can be celebrated in a stylish setting at Schwarzenstein Castle.

Culinary highlights at Schwarzenstein Castle
Since June 2020, star chef Nelson Müller has been in charge of the kitchen at Schwarzenstein Castle. With “MÜLLERS auf der Burg” a new brasserie has moved into the castle pavilion, skilfully combining timeless dishes with a modern twist. A concept that fits perfectly into the house. The menu is mainly French inspired. Terrine of duck liver as a starter, Breton turbot for the main course and a selection of the finest cheeses to finish off a fabulous menu. If you prefer a sweet dessert, the Tarte au Citron takes you to the Italian Amalfi Coast. When the sun is shining, guests prefer to sit at a table on the terrace. With the view of the surrounding landscape, the served dish and the high-quality wine taste even better. In a separate area of “MÜLLERS auf der Burg” you can celebrate in a very private atmosphere.

The Chef’s Table, which seats up to 20 people, is available for business meetings. Meetings in an elegant and relaxed atmosphere, with the best food and in a discreet setting, will entice even the most demanding partner to sign a contract. A romantic ambience and the regional cuisine of the Rhine Valley are the focus of the castle restaurant. Chef Marco Stenger and his team cook here daily with herbs from the castle garden and ingredients sourced from farmers in the surrounding area. On the menu you will find specialities such as Riesling soup, braised beef roulade and sorbet made from vineyard peaches. The castle restaurant has been delighting for years with top ratings from regular customers and new guests alike.

An arrangement for nice occasions
Schwarzenstein Castle provides the perfect setting for weddings, anniversaries and other celebrations. The house is also fully equipped for conferences in terms of rooms and technology. What works on a grand scale can also be applied to private, small stays. As a couple for two or three nights, the worries and stress of everyday life disappear completely. Guided hikes, wine tastings and a visit to the popular music festival at Johannisberg Castle are just some of the activities offered around the castle. In the evening you will return to your personal favourite of the three hotels. A real oasis of peace awaits you there!
